Beijer's history (an overview)

Beijer's history begins in 1945, directly after the Second World War. Mr Beijer and his business partners De Vries and Arends set up a customs house at the border crossing at Denekamp. The first drivers to report were Danes, who used converted army trucks to bring food to the Netherlands.

1945-1960

Rising goods shipments meant Beijer expanded rapidly. The EU's establishment in 1958 gave international trade an enormous boost. Beijer developed groupage to Scandinavia, creating the basis for its reputation for quality.

1960-1975

The growth in goods shipments meant increased customs activities. Seven border offices and shipping activities created a solid basis for the company that then employed 80 staff.

1975-1989

The company developed into a total logistics services supplier with quality as its number one priority. The architect of transport became supply-chain manager.

1990 -1999

In 1991 we opened the new 6000 m2 terminal on the Eektestraat in Oldenzaal, just a stone’s throw from the A1 East-West corridor. One year later, the company was faced with the most significant event in its history - the internal borders in the European Union were lifted. Six of the seven border offices were closed. Luckily our groupage services and logistics activities were sufficiently developed to absorb these losses. In 1993, Beijer obtained the coveted ISO-9002 quality certification in record time. We developed new scheduled services to Central and Eastern Europe. Our logistics empire was greatly expanded.

2000 - present

Beijer achieved independence in 2001 through a management buy-out.
The corporate logo, introduced in 2002, includes Beijer’s most important characteristics, dynamism, a customer-oriented approach and reliability.
In April 2008, Beijer was one of the first nineteen companies to be awarded the AEO Certificate Customs Simplification and Safety.
Work will begin in 2009 on our new premises on the Hazewinkel in Oldenzaal, which is on a scenic location alongside the A1 motorway. The new office will be equipped with a crossdocking and storage warehouse.
